Bike Races & Events in the Okanagan

The Okanagan is a pretty special place for road cyclists, mountain bikers, and gravel grinders. With rolling hills, picture-perfect lakes, and a passionate community, the bike races and events here are unforgettable.

BC Cancer Foundation Tour De Cure

Cyclepath has been a long time supporter and participant of fundraising events for the BC Cancer Foundation. In 2022, we have joined forces with a group of riders to form Tragically Clipped. Together, we will ride in and fundraise for the Tour De Cure.

The money we raise for the BC Cancer Foundation will support leading clinicians, scientists, and researchers whose search for new discoveries and improved patient outcomes will have a real impact in our communities throughout the province, across Canada, and around the world.

Road Bike Races and events

The Okanagan is home to a bunch of different road bike races and events that range in distance, speed, and competitiveness.

Some of Cyclepath's favourite road bike races and events include:

The Okanagan Shuswap Century Ride

Choose between a 4 km, 51 km, 73km and 100 km route, with all rides starting and finishing in Armstrong. To help prepare, there's a Kelowna training ride a month before the main event. $25 registration for the training ride lets you ride either 40km or 70km with a training group, and a beer at Red Bird afterwards.

Gran Fondo Axel Merckx

This is one of North America's premier cycling events and you'll find it right here in the Okanagan. The Gran Fondo Axel Merckx attracts recreational, elite and pro cyclists for an epic weekend of road cycling. Cyclists can ride 160km, 126km, 92km, or 55km courses, with each distance starting and finishing in Penticton.

Ride Don't Hide Kelowna

The annual Ride Don't Hide Event is also known as the Payton & Dillon Budd Memorial Ride in Kelowna.

It's a family-friendly event that raises funds for mental health in June each year. There is a distance for everyone - ranging from 6km to 100km - and there's even a Stride Don't Hide walk for anyone who wants to participate without wheels.

Cyclepath is a proud partner of this event.

Mountain Bike Events

From fun and social 'races' at Big White during downhill season to multi-day epics, the Okanagan has it all.

Here are some of the mountain bike races and events that take place annually in the Okanagan:

Bike Big White Toonie Races

A fun and friendly competition on Friday evenings at Bike Big White, the Toonie race series raises funds for MTBCO while encouraging anyone and everyone to give racing a go.

There's a social event and informal awards ceremony in the Village following the Toonie race each week.

Liv Bombshell Enduro

A women's only Enduro event held at Silverstar each year. It is known for its good vibes, low-pressure atmosphere, and incredible costumes. In 2022, there was a margarita station alongside pancakes, and a bunch of other goodies to stave off the hanger and keep the fun flowing.

The Okanagan 24

The Okanagan 24 takes place at Silver Star Mountain Resort. Sitting at an altitude of 1,609 m (5,280 ft), Silverstar resort offers expansive views of the Monashee mountain ranges, and makes the Okanagan 24 Canada’s highest 24 hour mountain bike race.

The race has a 24 hour and 4 hour events with solo and team categories. The race uses expertly constructed cross country trails consisting mostly of blue single track.

BC Bike Race

BC Bike Race is an epic 7-day mountain bike stage race that now takes place in the Okanagan. The stages take place on mostly singletrack, taking around 3-8 hours each day. It's known to be one of the more challenging multi-day XC MTB stage races.

Gravel Races in the Okanagan

Gravel cycling has exploded in the Okanagan recently. With plenty of vertical gains to be found and fast, fun, and flowy descents, we're excited to see where the gravel scene goes.

Here are some gravel cycling races and events coming up in the Okanagan:

The Okanagan Graveller Stage Race

Choose from 204km, 120km, and 90km races with grades of up to 15%! The routes cover undulating terrain including pavement, active and decommissioned forest service roads, rail trails, quad trails and single track. This is a new event for 2022 and we are stoked to see it take place.

BC Bike Race - Gravel Edition

The BCBR Gravel Explorer is a multi-day stage gravel race that explores the Okanagan. The route zig zags through challenging terrain described as being "a brash and bold mix of everything a gravel bike is capable of". Most days will involve 4+ hours of biking and several days cover more than 100km of gravel.
