Summer 2017 Youth Mountain Bike Camps

The focus of the camp is to build the foundational skills required to progress in mountain biking in a safe, fun and supportive environment, in line with PMBI coaching standards.

Cyclepath Kelowna & Skillin’ It! Bike Camps

DATE:

Camps 3 & 4: Aug 14-18
Morning Camp (9am-12pm) or Afternoon Camp (1-4) Full

**Based on demand an additional camp may be offered: Aug 21-25 – mornings

AGES: 10 to 15 (with some exceptions for 9 year olds – based on abilities)

COST: $200 per student, min. 8 per class max. 24 per class. Registration and payment is in-store only.

A free bike safety check is offered – to be brought into Cyclepath a minimum 1 week before the camp

ABOUT THE COURSE:
The focus of the camp is to build the foundational skills required to progress in mountain biking in a safe, fun and supportive environment, in line with PMBI coaching standards.

Topics covered will be:

  • Body positioning – climbing, crouch climbing, ready, and attack positions
  • Balance – the 4 planes of movement over the bike
  • Braking – managing speed and stops with maximum control
  • Gearing – cadence and pedaling technique
  • Line Selection – trail scanning and line choice
  • Direction control – steering and leaning
  • Pressure control – manipulating the bike to for greater control and performance
  • Timing and coordination – combining all skills to improve riding ability
  • Bike and equipment check and basic bike maintenance

About the Instructors from Skillin It! Bike Camps:

Jacky Martin
Has been passionate about mountain biking since she saved up and bought her first bike at the age of 12. She hails from Big White Mountain and has ridden extensively throughout the Okanagan. She is a Certified PMBI Instructor and has lead instructional group rides on Cyclepath’s Tuesday mtb rides as well as running a Women’s 8 week Kelowna mtb clinic. She is passionate about teaching and inspiring beginner riders! Jacky has raced in the BC Cup Downhill Series as a team rider with the Muddbunnies and is also a past director of Mountain Biking Tourism BC.

Darren Threinen
Has been mountain biking for 20 years, riding extensively through Alberta and BC. He is a certified PMBI instructor and has provided lessons to beginner and intermediate level riders at Silver Star bike park.
